Defining IT & technology terms

Cyber defense

Cyber defense is a set of activities that aims to protect data and technology resources from unauthorized access, manipulation, use or collection. Cyber defense secures digital resources by implementing protections and policies.

There are various cyber defense tools designed to:

  • Detect intruders
  • Prevent access
  • Encrypt information
  • Verify identities

Educating end users is an important aspect of cyber defense. Many cyber criminals manipulate end users by imitating authority figures through email and other communication methods. Showing end users common cybercriminal tactics helps prevent these manipulations and increases overall cyber defense.
