Defining IT & technology terms

Dispersed workforce

A dispersed workforce is an organization in which teammates work across remote and on-site environments. This includes arrangements in which some employees are fully remote, while others are fully on-site, as well as arrangements in which teammates alternate between working on- and off-site.

The dispersed workforce can also describe an organization in which teams operate on varied schedules, such as split shifts at a single site or hybrid on-site and remote work across multiple time zones.

Whether it changes where work is done, when work is done or both, the dispersed workforce represents a marked shift from the traditional workplace, in which everyone works on-site at the same time, to a hybrid workplace.
